Problems occurring when using water as a material

Hello everyone,

I am currently using 2D poroelastic modeling. Suppose the top and bottom are two limestone blocks with a layer of water in between. The water head is set so that the water flows from left to right. When I apply force to the top and bottom rocks, the water layer's volume decreases, causing an increase in flow rate. However, if I need to define the space as water, I have to set the Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio. As far as I know, water does not have a Young's modulus, and its Poisson's ratio is 0.5. I would like to know if there is a way to set this space as "empty" or if there is a better method to define and compress water.

Thanks for your reading! I am looking forward to your reply!

Nick

Hello Nick,

You should not set up the water as if it was a solid. Instead, for this fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problem, follow the general strategy illustrated bythis tutorial, among others.

Best regards,

Jeff
