COMSOL, Inc. is seeking a motivated and talented front-end web designer to join our Web team onsite in Burlington, MA.
Job Description
You will be part of a group tasked with maintaining the current version of the COMSOL website and company intranet, redesigning and rethinking sections of our website, and building brand new web interfaces and tools to improve company workflow and data management. We produce all of our web, marketing, and design collateral in-house, and create high-quality pieces that follow the latest trends and best practices.
As part of our Web team, you will help turn design concepts into wireframes and ultimately code, publish new web pages, create HTML emails on request, and assist in redesign projects. In the beginning, you will be tasked with following existing guidelines and design specs, but there is potential to grow into leading new projects over time.
This Role Entails
- Building user experiences for visitors of the COMSOL website and intranet
- Studying and understanding existing systems, pages, and tools to help improve or rebuild them
- Creating designs and wireframes and then turning them into code
- Creating HTML emails using a responsive template system
- Taking our highly technical and scientific content and presenting it in a clean and easy-to-understand manner
- Working on a team and collaborating with graphic designers, content producers, marketing staff, and back-end developers; points of collaboration include:
- Partnering with graphic designers from the Marketing department to ensure consistent branding across media
- Collective brainstorming and incorporating feedback and creative direction into a final product
- Staying up-to-date on industry best practices
Minimum Qualifications
- 3+ years of relevant web experience
- Understanding of information architecture
- Ability to create clean wireframes, mockups, and prototypes
- Proficiency writing HTML and CSS/LESS/SASS
- Experience working with the Bootstrap framework
- Experience working with a CSS preprocessor
- Proficiency in responsive design
- Working knowledge of version control
- Ability to read and understand JavaScript code
- Proficiency in developing cross-client compatible HTML emails
- Communicate your designs clearly with stakeholders and back-end developers
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Understanding of UX and UI design principles
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues effectively
- Motivated to work on a team
- Current eligibility to work in the U.S. No sponsorship for employment-based visas will be offered for this position
Helpful Qualifications
- Ability to write JavaScript (not required)
- Experience working with a PHP-based back-end
- Knowledge of SEO best practices and implementation
- Experience working with database queries (specifically, MySQL)
- Experience working on corporate or high-volume websites
- Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator proficiency
- Experience working with the BEM methodology for CSS
