Introduction to Modeling Resistive Devices

In Part 2 of the Introduction to Modeling Resistive and Capacitive Devices course, we begin by following up on a few items addressed in Part 1. This includes demonstrating the different approaches you can use to focus the mesh refinement in a specific region of your model geometry. We also discuss the logic you would employ to determine what region to focus your mesh refinement, depending on what you learn from your simulation results. From there, we turn our focus to modeling resistors.

We discuss expanding a model to introduce some complexity through incorporating multiple different materials into the model, including metal, resistive, and inclusion materials. Upon computing the study for the model and using derived values to determine the resistive losses in the system, as well as the different materials, we walk through what modeling approximations we can make for the different materials based on our results. We discuss how this enables us to simplify our simulation and demonstrate what parts to model and not to model. Following this, we address when to move your model to a thin layer approach and end the session by showing how to build an electric circuit model.
