Performing Optimization in COMSOL Multiphysics

Using Optimization Studies to Perform Parameter Optimization

In Part 4 of thiscourse on optimization, we revisit theOptimization of a Tuning Forktutorial model introduced in Part 3. Using this model, we demonstrate the entire process of adding, setting up, and computing an optimization study. Our objective throughout the demonstration is to find the appropriate length for the prongs of the tuning fork so that the first resonance is close to 440 Hz. You can follow along with the demonstration by downloading the cleared tuning fork MPH-file attached to this article.

Following this, we present a new example model to demonstrate how to performparameter optimization on a beam. The objective is to find the optimal geometry by moving a point, which is defined through parameters, in order to remove material from the beam and minimize its weight without violating a displacement constraint when the beam is subject to a distributed load. The demo begins with the forward model already set up; you can download ithereand use it to follow along with the rest of the guided demonstration.
